The Northwest Carpenters have a reputation of excellence on the job site. Carpenters work in a constantly changing field requiring highly skilled workers to meet the biggest challenges. Our Union and our contract partners are only successful if each worker has the skills to meet these high demands. As a leader in training and construction trades, members – both new and established – have the opportunity to learn through continuing education. Our regional trusts invests in our members by providing programs and classes to give you new skills for success. These programs will get you further in your career and establish you as an expert, ready to meet any challenge on the job site. You’ll have the immediate benefit of a job and expert training and have higher wages and better opportunity in the future. Training and Apprenticeship programs provide education both on the job and in a classroom. You’ll earn a paycheck while you study and have greater potential for earning in your future. This isn’t just a job, it’s the education for your career as a Carpenter.

Apprenticeship Programs

Apprenticeship is the best way to start your career as a Carpenter. Whether you have experience on a job site or have never used tools before, apprenticeship programs are designed to give you the skills for success. Each program is designed for on the job skills and puts you on the job site immediately. However, this isn’t just a job; it’s your education. You’re required to meet the demands of classroom training and testing. As you develop your skills, you’ll be better suited for the job sites of the future. Most apprenticeship programs last four years giving you journeyman status upon completion with high earning potential. Membership procedures and requirements vary from area to area so please contact the training center nearest you for more information. (see below)

Members are entitled to training through Training Centers located Council-wide. Training is supervised by a Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee with members from the Union and the signatory contractor employers.

If you are already a member, you have the opportunity to sign up for FREE training through your regional trust. The Journeyman Leadership Program is a three day program geared towards developing the strong qualities of members on the job and in their lives – leadership, communication, mentoring and collective action.
