Mission Statement

The PNWRCC is dedicated to innovation, equity, organizing, and growth. We are transforming the construction industry and empowering carpenters to elevate our craft, protect working families, and benefit society.

Trades and Local Unions

The PNWRCC represents a number of different crafts and trades. Members have a Local Union that is the representative group of their trade in their area. They meet regularly to support members, train and educate each other, vote on leadership and business issues and work together for the benefit of their community. PNWRCC represents:

General Carpenters

Commercial and general carpentry professionals provide the crucial work on most every type of structure, in a variety of settings—indoor and outdoor, urban and rural, far above ground or below grade. Carpenters are skilled in layout, measuring, cutting, erecting, and joining materials together.

Exterior/Interior Systems

Interior systems professionals are experts in the installation of modern equipment and material in commercial and public buildings, including acoustical ceilings, computer-access flooring, metal framing, wall partitions, office furniture systems, and both custom or factory-produced materials.

Millwrights

Millwrights are construction professionals who work primarily with machinery and equipment requiring precision. Millwrights install, maintain, diagnose, and repair equipment such as compressors, pumps, conveyors, gas and steam turbines, monorails, and extruders.

Piledrivers

Piledrivers expertly and efficiently drive steel, concrete or wood piling into the earth during the early stages of construction as certified welders and sometimes commercial divers. This crucial work ensures stable buildings and infrastructure and the safety of workers.

Scaffold Erectors

Scaffold erectors build and dismantle various types of scaffolding and temporary elevated work platforms. Their work takes them to the most diverse job sites—exterior building repair, a shipyard, oil refinery, lumber mill, or in tunnel projects.

Shipwrights

Shipwrights repair and renovate all kinds of boats. These carpenters specialize in building techniques with composite and laminate materials, wooden boat construction and repair, lofting, mast and boom making, interior joinery, planking and spiling, caulking, and a host of other boat building and repair techniques, some unchanged for centuries.

Trade Show Workers

Trade Show workers take any empty facility and turn it into a full show presentation in just a few short days. Carpenters move and handle freight, lay carpet, rig equipment, setup pipe and drape, install and dismantle exhibits and modular systems.

Floor Coverings

Floor coverers install a wide variety of flooring materials, including carpet, resilients, wood, laminates, and sport surfaces. They are experts at estimating materials; understanding pattern layout; and safely and properly using the industry's many tools. Professional floor coverers from the UBC are found in commercial, residential, and institutional settings.

Organizing

Unions organize under federal regulations and oversight by the National Labor Relations Act. The UBC, the PNWRCC and our Locals organize for Collective Bargaining rights to negotiate a higher standard for all construction workers. Organizing enables the Union to win better wages and benefits for our membership. Unionized workers are in a stronger position to establish their wage and benefits in their market area. Area Standards

The Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters work together on the job site and in the community to maintain and improve safety, wages, benefits, training and working conditions. Carpenters’ area standards are guided by the principle that every Carpenter must be treated with dignity and respect. Since 1881 the United Brotherhood of Carpenters have sworn to protect and preserve Area Standards which include a good family wage, healthcare for members and their family, a pension, and contributions to training and education.

The Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters informs and educates the general public, and those involved in the construction industry, to maintain and improve Area Standards. We do so through legal, legislative and public information activities, until all Carpenters receive area standard wages and benefits.

Working with Partners

Our partners are the project developers, contractors, architects, government agencies and public works that design and build the most important infrastructure, commercial buildings, housing and machines at the core of the American economy. They benefit from the skills and professionalism that apprentice and journeymen Carpenters bring to the job site. The Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters works with its partners through negotiation, training and job site cooperation to improve safety, complete projects on time, and provide fair wages and benefits. Every Carpenter whether union or not, deserves to be paid a decent wage and full family healthcare, and when the time comes, to be able to retire with dignity. Every partner can expect skilled, accountable and bold workers.
