➤ We suffered during the recession. Isn’t it time to make back what we lost in raises during that time?

The entire country suffered because we had a terrible recession and a construction depression. Carpenters didn’t “lose” raises, we kept our jobs and had steady work. Compared to other industries we were hit the hardest but have recovered more strongly than many.

UBC started on job sites across the country.

Our founding president, Peter J. McGuire worked tirelessly on the job sites across the country with his fellow Carpenters to organize the union. In 1881, he organized a Chicago convention to form a union. Representatives from 11 cities joined him and they produced a constitution and structure. Learn More
