Membership Meetings
Local membership meetings are the backbone of our Union, and most everything starts there. These meetings are full of information about the goings on throughout the Regional Council and the geographic jurisdiction of the Local Union. The general meetings for each Local happen monthly, on the same day of each month. Business is conducted at these meetings, including contract discussions, votes on leadership and delegates, political endorsements, political activities, and much more regarding the general running of the Union. Every member gets a vote on these motions.
Regional Council meetings are where Delegates from throughout the Council get together and conduct business that shapes the overall running of our six-state Regional Council. Delegates to the Regional Council bring with them direction or consensus from their Local Union, which is why it is important to attend your Local Union meetings and have a voice in shaping Regional Council Policy. Both on a Regional Council level and a Local Union level there are multiple committees that meet on a regular basis. Most Local Unions have a political committee that meet monthly.
Career Track & Training
Being a carpenter is not just your job, it’s your career. The PNWRCC has training and leadership positions for Carpenters looking to build their skills and meet the coming demands of a changing building industry. New members can begin their training through apprenticeship program putting them on the job to put classroom skills to work. Journeymen members can continue their education with continued skills training and by taking on leadership with a Local committee, as a job site Steward, as a Delegate or Field Rep for the Regional Council or mentor for new and old members. Find out more at Career Building in Member Resources.
Get Involved
In order to maintain Area Standards and improve conditions for all workers, Carpenters are actively engaged as elected officials, board and commission members, church and civic organization leaders and industry experts in their communities. We educate and inform elected officials, media and opinion-makers on the benefits of Union Carpenters and the importance of family wage jobs. We attend legislative meetings, pursue sound public policy, endorse political candidates and vote in civic and union elections. Members are involved with the political process through their political committees and engage their communities with civic action.
POLITICAL ACTION
The union pursues “Carpenter Politics,” an inclusive and nonpartisan effort to support candidates who champion the goals of working people, promote needed infrastructure investments, and support fair trade. Most of the union’s political activity takes place in its local unions and regional councils. Their political committees interview candidates seeking support, promote political involvement and voting among the membership, and assist in campaigns. The Brotherhood’s brand of participatory politics doesn’t get shelved with the yard signs after Election Day. Members are encouraged to attend government meetings and public hearings where issues affecting them are discussed and to reach out directly to the officials they helped elect.
